New to Scouting

… and want to know what it’s all about

We’ve copied HQ’s purpose of Scouting so you can see what I says. It’s pretty good and fiddling with the words isn’t that helpful even if it is written in more formal language than the rest of our website! …

The purpose of scouting:

Scouting exists to actively engage and support young people in their personal development, empowering them to make a positive contribution to society.

We and other Scout groups do this by having fun and basing our activities around the Scout Promise and Law. Our aim as leaders is to ensure that all children achieve their full potential, whatever that is.

All sections have their own special ceremonies at the start and end of each meeting.

The requirement to make and understand a Promise is what sets The Scout Association apart from other youth organisations and is the ‘value added’ dimension of Scouting.

All activities will be run in accordance with Safety Rules. No responsibility for personal equipment or clothing effects can be accepted. The Scout Association DOES NOT provide automatic insurance cover in respect of such items.
